About Elyn Cream

Elyn Cream is a medication designed specifically for treating excessive facial hair growth, also known as facial hirsutism. It works by slowing down the growth of unwanted hair typically found around the lips and under the chin. This cream is meant for external use only, so it should be applied to freshly cleaned and dried skin as instructed by your doctor. Before and after application, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly. Consistent use of Elyn Cream is essential to achieve the best results. Avoid overusing the cream, as it will not speed up the clearance of your condition and may even lead to increased side effects.

The active ingredient in Elyn Cream is Eflornithine, which is classified as an Ornithine decarboxylase inhibitor. This ingredient is effective in addressing facial hirsutism in women, a condition characterized by excessive unwanted hair growth on areas such as the chin and mouth. This condition is often associated with hormonal imbalances caused by factors like elevated levels of androgen hormones, conditions like Polycystic ovary syndrome, adrenal gland or ovary tumors, and Cushing’s syndrome.

Before using Elyn Cream, it is crucial to inform your doctor about any history of kidney or liver problems, such as renal or hepatic impairments. If you have known allergies to eflornithine, it is not advisable to use Elyn Cream. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also exercise caution when using this medication. Additionally, for children and adolescents below 18 years, consulting a doctor before using Elyn Cream is recommended to ensure proper and safe application.

Common side effects associated with the use of Elyn Cream include acne, itching, skin redness, hair loss, burning discomfort, stinging sensations, dry skin, rash, irritation, and inflammation of hair follicles. Most of these side effects are temporary and tend to diminish with time. However, if you experience any concerning side effects, it is important to contact your doctor immediately. Avoid direct contact of the cream with your eyes, but if contact occurs, wash your eyes with water and seek medical attention promptly. Discontinuing the treatment without consulting your physician is not recommended, as hair growth may resume after stopping the medication. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding before using Elyn Cream to ensure the safety of both yourself and your baby.
