Causes
- The fluid inside your eye, called aqueous humor, usually flows out of your eye through a mesh-like channel.
- If this channel gets blocked, or the eye is producing too much fluid, the liquid builds up.
- Sometimes what causes this blockage is unknown but experts say it is inherted.
- Other causes of glaucoma include a blunt or chemical injury to your eye, severe eye infection, blocked blood vessels inside your eye, and inflammatory conditions.
Symptoms
- Seeing halos around lights
- Vision loss
- Redness in your eye
- Eye that looks hazy (particularly in infants)
- Upset Stomach or Vomiting
- Eye Pain

Glaucoma surgery has a high success rate. The vast majority of patients report that their eye pressure has gone down after glaucoma surgery, improving their eye health overall.
During recovery, patients are advised to avoid heaving lifting, straining and bending for the first couple weeks following surgery until the operated eye completely heals.
You can shower or wash your hair the day after surgery. Keep water, soap, shampoo, hair spray, and shaving lotion out of your eye, especially for the first week. Do not rub or put pressure on your eye for at least 1 week.
You should always wear your glasses during the daytime. If you find your eyes are feeling sensitive to light, you can wear sunglasses to reduce any discomfort. However, you can continue to read and watch TV during this time.
