What is IUI?

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) — a type of artificial insemination — is a procedure for treating infertility. Sperms that have been washed and concentrated are placed directly in your uterus around the time your ovary releases one or more eggs to be fertilized.view more

How to diagnose and When to Consult a Doctor?

Intrauterine insemination is used most often in couples who have:1 ) Donor sperm. For women who need to use donor sperm to get pregnant, IUI is most commonly used to achieve pregnancy. Frozen donor sperm specimens are obtained from certified labs and thawed before the IUI procedure. 2 ) Unexplained infertility. IUI is often performed as a first treatment for unexplained infertility along with ovulation-inducing medications.

When to go for surgery? What would be the complication if not operated?

Firstly, if you are experiencing infertility issues, even at a relatively old age, supposedly 40, you are the one who can approach fertility experts regarding such treatments. Secondly, it is important to look out for male-factor infertility symptoms. One suffering from tubal or genital diseases should not directly go for such treatments as well. Endometriosis or pelvic adhesions are not appropriate records for applicants who wish to go through IUI treatments protocols. An important thing to note is that couples suffering from male-infertility problems can get through the treatment process.

Is it covered under insurance?

Is the treatment covered under insurance?

Yes, most plans cover the cost of treatment for both primary and secondary infertility conditions. However one must check with the insurance provider before undergoing the treatment. Some insurance providers have a waiting period for 6 months to 2 years before they can claim.

How is the recovery after surgery?

Bed rest for 10 and 20 min after intrauterine insemination has a positive effect on the pregnancy rate, but there is no statistically significant difference between them. We recommend bed rest for at least 10 min after intrauterine insemination.
