A radiologist is a medical professional who is trained in interpreting medical images to diagnose and monitor your health conditions. They study scans such as CT, X-rays, MRI, and ultrasound to detect problems inside your body, and work closely with your primary doctor to guide the correct treatment. A radiologist in Patamata also helps track disease progression over time with regular imaging, which makes ongoing care more accurate.
Radiologists assist in identifying a wide range of concerns, such as:
Radiologists don't typically prescribe treatment but perform and interpret imaging tests ordered by other doctors, such as X-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans, MRIs, and mammograms. Based on findings, they may suggest additional or follow-up imaging for clearer diagnosis, like contrast studies or specialized scans (e.g., Doppler ultrasound), to help the referring doctor confirm a condition.
Timely imaging can help catch your health concerns early and guide the right treatment, so it's best not to delay a scan your doctor recommends. You should consult a radiologist if you have been advised to get an CT, MRI, X-ray, or ultrasound, or if you are experiencing swelling, unexplained pain, or symptoms that require internal examination. Moreover, it's also worth booking a scan for routine monitoring of an existing condition.
Preparation depends on the scan type: for MRI/CT, remove metal objects and inform staff of implants or allergies; for abdominal ultrasounds, you may need to fast; for contrast scans, fasting or hydration may be required. Wear comfortable clothing, carry previous reports or referral notes, and inform the radiologist if you're pregnant or have kidney issues beforehand.

Here are a few simple things to keep in mind before choosing the right radiologist:
A referral is generally not required to consult a radiologist, but most patients are referred by their treating doctor for specific imaging such as X-rays, MRI, or CT scans. Radiologists primarily interpret these scans, so consult your primary doctor first to determine the appropriate imaging.
When you book a scan via MediBuddy, the fees for radiologist consultation fees usually range between Rs 500 and Rs 2,500, depending on the type of scan. The exact cost depends on the imaging technique, the centre's facilities, and the locality of the clinic.
To book an in-clinic radiology visit, search "Radiologist" on the MediBuddy app or website, select a centre near you, choose a convenient slot, and confirm your appointment with payment.
